MY PROMISE

I’ll carefully determine the best course of repair and perform the work to the best of my ability. I became interested in woodworking in High School. After graduation from High School I went to work for various Cabinet Shops, Upholsters, Restorers, and Finishers. In 1982 following an 8 year apprenticeship I started Amato’s Furniture Repair Service.

Repair and Restoration Service for a tradesman is a skill that takes many years to become proficient at. Every project is as important to me as it is to my client. I handle every project from start to finish. Every furnishing or heirloom is in my control from start to finish. I do not have employees nor do I sub contract out to other firms.

I’ve been fortunate to give back over the years instructing folks anxious to learn this craft. I taught Furniture Repair at Constantine’s in the Bronx, New York and at the Brookfield Craft Center in Connecticut. I also taught adult Education - Furniture Repair and Re-upholstery at the Rochambeau School in White Plains, New York and Furniture Repair / Woodworking Techniques at the White Plains High School - White Plains, New York. Craftsman who perform Restorations will tell you it never feels like work. It’s extremely satisfying to restore an item and have a client say we’re very pleased ! This is what I labor for with every project.

MY NAME IS Steve Amato

My favorite job this year was working in the new ESPN Sports Center Studio where I repaired a cabinet that was delivered damaged. I asked to stay on - maybe do a feature “Talking Yanks”, but they said, “you do nice furniture repair - stay with that” but how about a photo instead!
